What federal regulation means
Banks, federally incorporated or registered insurance companies, and federal trust and loan companies are supervised by OSFI, which checks that they stay financially sound. Most credit unions and caisses populaires, and the trust companies and insurers formed under a province's law, are regulated by their province instead, so they are not on this list.
